COLONEL STEPHEN E. SLADE

Colonel Stephen E. Slade is the Vice Commander, 310th Space Wing, Air Force Reserve Command, Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. As Vice Commander, he assists the Commander in leading more than 1,100 military and civilian personnel supporting a wide variety of space operations missions and operating systems valued at over $46 billion.

Colonel Slade commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Utah State University. He has served in a variety of active duty space and missile operations and staff positions, including Minuteman III ICBM and Milstar operations squadrons, a test squadron and United States Strategic Command. Transitioning to the Air Force Reserve in 2005, Colonel Slade has served in multiple joint commands and on the Air Staff. Recalled to active duty in 2009, he deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM as the Expeditionary Cyber Support Element officer-in-charge, Deputy Chief of Staff Communication, International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

Prior to assuming his current position, Colonel Slade was the 310th Operations Group Commander, where he was responsible for the daily operations of eight squadrons providing space operations training, missile warning, electronic warfare, space situational awareness, navigation, weather information, and command and control.
