310th Space Wing Reserve Citizen Airmen celebrated the activation of the 42nd Combat Training Squadron while witnessing the inactivation of the Headquarters Reserve National Security Space Institute during a ceremony May 5, 2019.

42 CTS, commanded by Lt. Col. Bill Havens, supports the newly designated 319th Combat Training Squadron, formerly the Advanced Space Operations Squadron, in its mission to provide training to Air Force, joint service and allied space professionals. The 42 CTS also provides instruction in support of Air Force Space Command’s missions.

The squadron stood up as the HQ RNSSI in 2007 as part of the 310th Space Group, supporting the National Security Space Institute. Its mission has grown to include experienced instructors in space operations, air operations, intelligence, space system acquisitions and cyberspace.

The men and women of 42 CTS intend to carry on the traditions and heritage of the HQ RNSSI as they focus on training Air Force, joint and allied coalition forces how to effectively employ space capabilities to defeat adversarial efforts that threaten the United States and their allies’ interests in space.
