Space Control Squadron members spend holidays deployed Published Jan. 9, 2016 By Senior Master Sgt. Mary Church O'Brien 380th Space Control Squadron SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Many of us had time to spend with our families this holiday season and appreciate what is around us. For a select group from the 380th and 16th Space Control Squadrons their surroundings were the beautiful deserts of Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. They have been deployed since July and are anxiously waiting to return to their families. The team supports U.S. Central Command's top space priority by providing Defensive Space Control under Operation Silent Sentry. They are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and have been since 2005. Close to 300 active-duty and Reserve members have volunteered time away from their families over the years. Almost all squadrons within the 310th Operations Group have had volunteers assist this warfighting mission. For those of you that don't know, Defensive Space Control is our ability to monitor, intercept and find (or geolocate) satellite communication jammers, sources of electromagnetic interference, and other signals of interest. The 380th also has an in-garrison mission employing the Standardized Process for Interference Reporting and Interference Targeting system. During this time of year it is important to say thank you to each of you for what you have done. A special thank you is extended to the team that is currently deployed. Thank you for taking time away from your family during the holidays.
