TEDxSchriever features Selflessness
TEDxSchriever is 1 p.m. May 15 in the Building 300 auditorium. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDxSchriever is a local, self-organized event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience. The theme for the event is "Selflessness." Live speakers include Helen Thorpe, Steve Hitchcock, Thea Wasche, Airman 1st Class Samuel Stone, Lt. Col. Todd Benson and U.S. Air Force Academy Band Blue Steel to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The event will also feature TEDTalks videos focusing on the theme. Military Veterans Employment Expo comes to Front Range
There will be Industry specific training 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 19 and 20th at the Pikes Peak Community College, 5675 South Academy Boulevard. Dress code will be business casual. The employment expo is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 21 at Mortgage Solutions Financial, 3650 North Nevada Avenue, and boasts more than 175 employers with career opportunities. Dress code will be business for the employment expo. The events are open to all active-duty, National Guard and Reserve service members, veterans and their spouses. Peterson hosts CCAF graduation
Please come out and support the Peterson Complex Community College of the Air Force graduates as during their graduation 2 p.m. May 15 at the Peterson Air Force Base Club Ballroom.  

Military Retirees Activities Office hosts monthly luncheon
The Military Retiree Activities office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month at the Peterson Air Force Base club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206. For more information, please call 556-7153.

Society opens doors to military widows
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouses rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Peterson Air Force Base club. Save money, ride a vanpool
Save gas money. Government provides $130 per rider per month to pay for commuter van.  Department of Defense civilians and uniformed military personnel are eligible.  Space is available that originates from Falcon Walmart (Woodmen and Meridian Market View Road). The van departs 6:25 a.m. weekdays and arrives at Schriever 6:55 a.m. At the end of the duty day, the van departs Schriever at 4:10 p.m. and arrives at Falcon Walmart 4:40 p.m.  Drop off and pickup points on Schriever may vary. Schriever offers Pathways Summer Internship Program

Chapel hosts World Religions Lunch and Learn
The Schriever Chapel will host a World Religions Lunch and Learn each Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Satellite Dish dining facility until June 3. All are welcome to enjoy a stimulating and informational session, ending with question and answer period. Enjoy learning more about various cultures and religions. Each session is taught by a representative of that particular faith. Grab your lunch and prepare to be enlightened.

Crime Prevention Tip
Vacation Safety and Security
Never share vacation plans on social networking sites.  Use timers for lights, television, and radio to make the house appear as if it is currently occupied.  Have the postal office hold mail, or have a neighbor pick up mail and newspapers.  If you have any questions, contact Staff Sgt. Housing offers bible study
The Schriever Housing Christian Fellowship will consist of worship, bible study and prayer 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday at Tierra Vista Community Center. Those interested may email jks.looking4glass@gmail.com or call 406-871-0550. All you need is a bible and willingness to study God's word.  The format will be a discussion led study. Childcare will not be provided but do not let the lack of childcare hinder attendance. Just give us a call and we will explore options as necessary.  If you play a guitar or to want to lead worship, contact us as soon as possible.

Grab your Elitch Garden tickets
The Information, Tickets, and Tours/Outdoor Recreation Office is now selling discounted Elitch Gardens Amusement Park tickets. Season Passes, one day passes, meal vouchers and parking passes can all be purchased at the ITT/ODR in Building 300, Room 133. Buy early to take advantage of "pre-season" specials. Stop by the office or call 567-6050 for any questions.

ITT sells Sky Sox ticket vouchers
Information, Tickets and Tours has free ticket vouchers for the May 1 Military Appreciation Game.  Vouchers can be picked up from ODR/ITT in Building 300, Wizards Brew in Building 210 or at the Schriever Fitness Center.  Vouchers must be redeemed prior to the game at the Sky Sox box office.   Limit of 10 per person.  For more information, call 567-6050.

Fitness center parking lot closes during resurfacing
The Schriever Fitness Center main parking lot is being resurfaced until May 15.  During this time, the main parking lot will be closed.  Please use the upper parking lot until the resurfacing is complete.  For more information call 567-6628.

50th Force Support Squadron is Participating in a NAF sale
The 50th Force Support Squadron will be selling two pop-up campers during the Peterson AFB Non-appropriated Fund sale on April 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in bldg. 1030 on Peterson AFB.  The sale of the campers is a sealed bid with a minimum of $2,500. Reduce Your Stress by Improving Your Sleep
Are you waking up tired?  Feeling unrefreshed or unrested?  Having difficulties falling or staying asleep at night? Want a better night of sleep?  Nationally, one-third of the population experiences occasional sleep problems, yet only 10 percent of sleep problems are caused from medical conditions.  The remainders of sleep problems are caused by things we can control.  Come to the 21st MDS Clinic's sleep enhancement class to find out how.  Join us on the 1st  and 3rd Thursday of each month at 12 p.m. in the Chapel Resource Room, Bldg 300, Room 146. The class is open to all Schriever personnel. 

CDC Gives a Parents Day Out
The Child Development Center offers Parents Day Out for active-duty Air Force families one day a month. The program is $4.00 an hour per child.   The next session will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  May 9.  Your child must be registered at the CDC by May 6, 2015. Call the CDC at 567-3920 for more information and registration requirements.

Mental Health Hosts Stress Mastery Class
We realize that today you are doing more with less. It is important that we build resilience to deal with our changing environment.  The 21 MDS Mental Health Clinic is now offering a stress mastery class to help you channel stress into productivity and success. The class is open to all Schriever personnel.
Drop in on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at the Chapel Resource Room, Bldg.  300, Room 146. Class is from 12:00 -12:50 p.m. Empower yourself to be a resilient person!  No RSVP required. Bring your lunch!

Cape Fox offers Motorcycle Training Courses
Registration for the Advanced Rider Course through Cape Fox has begun.  This course will fulfill required intermediate and refresher motorcycle training for military riders.  Interested riders should contact their Unit Motorcycle Safety Representative for more details.  Classes will be held at the Motorcycle Training Academy at Chapel Hills Mall beginning on June 6, with other classes available throughout the summer.  There are only 30 class seats available. Peterson hosts Armed Forces Community Run
The 5K will begin at 8:45 a.m. and the 10K will take place 8:30 a.m. May 9. Registration is $30 per runner. Goody bags will be provided for each registered runner. The event will feature free food and live music. The race is also a qualifier for the Boulder/ Boulder timed chip race. Visit the 21st Force Support Squadron to sign up or visit  http://www.runningguru.com/ to sign up the day of the race. Anyone interested in volunteering should call 556-2767.

Basketball Court Closed May 1-2
The basketball court at the Fitness Center will be closed from 3 p.m. May 1 until noon May 2 in support of an official function. For more information, please call the Fitness Center at 567-6628.

CDC Gives Parents a Break
The Child Development Center offers respite care to referred active-duty Air Force families courtesy of the Air Force Aid Society on one Saturday morning or late afternoon each month.  The next session will be held from 9:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May. 9.  A voucher is required to register. Eligible families may obtain the voucher through the Airman and Family Readiness Center, commander, first sergeant or chaplain. Your child must be registered at the CDC by May 6, 2015. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 for more information.

LinkedIn Lab coming to Airman and Family Center
The Schriever A&FRC will host a LinkedIn Lab 9 to 11 a.m. May 7. A top priority resource for any job seeker, LinkedIn is the world's largest online professional network with millions of members.  This class covers information for the absolute beginner to the advanced LinkedIn user.  Learn how to get the most out of a LinkedIn with hands-on interaction setting up an account and populating it.  Call 567-3920 to sign up for the class. The class will be held at the A&FRC Building 101.

A&FRC Provides pre-separation counseling briefing
The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a pre-separation counseling briefing 8 to 10 a.m. May. 5. This is the first step to separating or retiring from the military and the briefing is mandatory. Discussion will include registering for e-benefits, beginning an individual transition plan and the benefits and services available when you leave the military. Documentation of this briefing is accomplished through the completion of Department of Defense Form 2648. If you are a year from separation or two years from retirement, start the process. Call the A&FRC at 567-3920 to sign up.

A&FRC Offers Pre-deployment Briefing
The Pre-Deployment Briefing is for deployers who are 30-60 days away from departure date. Many of the agencies on the Outprocessing Checklist will brief. This is a one-stop shop for outprocessing for deployment. The class will be held 8 to 10 a.m. May 6 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. Please call 567-3920 to sign up.

Sponsor a USAFA Cadet
The U.S. Air Force Academy is looking for volunteer sponsor families to build a professional mentoring relationship and provide a home-away-from-home for the cadets.  Eligible sponsors:  O-3 and above; E-6 and above; GS-05 and above.   Cadets will meet their sponsors at the Doolie Day Out event, July 18. The deadline to sign up for the Doolie Day Out event is July. You may also sponsor for the academic year (through grad year). Softball Coaches Meeting
The softball coaches meeting will be held at 1 p.m. May 6 in Bldg. T-135 (next to Fitness Center).  Each team must have a representative (coach or player) attend this meeting. Letters of intent will not be accepted after 2 p.m. May 6. Please call the Fitness Center at 567-6628 for more information.

The Murph to be held May 8
The Fitness Center will be hosting "The Murph" competition May 8. The Murph consists of a 1-mile run followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 body-squats followed by another 1-mile run. All participants who complete the Murph will receive a t-shirt. The pull-ups, push-ups, and body-squats can be completed in any order (i.e. doing sets of 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats) but the 1-mile runs must "book-end" the event. You must pre-register for this event by noon on May 6. For registration and more information, please call the Fitness Center at 567-6628.

Women's Locker Room Closed May 6 and 20
The women's locker room at the Fitness Center will be closed on May 6 and May 20 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. for electrical work.  The women's locker room will be unavailable for use during this time. Please call the Fitness Center at 567-6628 for more information.

CDC hosts pinwheel parade
Come out for the final event of Month of the Military Child, Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. On April 30 at 3 p.m. in front of the CDC, the children from the Child Development Center will be marching in a pinwheel parade. Shining in the sun, the pinwheels represent a bright future for our children and our community. We want all children to live in stable, loving and stimulating environments, at home, in school and in the community.  Come out to cheer on and support our military children.
