Dining facility receives upgrades

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --  Just as the satellites of the 50th Space Wing undergo continuous improvement, the same goes for the base's primary dining facility.

"The dining facility strives to provide the men and women of Schriever Air Force Base with quality food and great service," said Maj. Justin Long, 50th Force Support Squadron commander. "The makeover is another way to ensure we take care of Team Schriever members and improve the quality of life for our people."

The dining facility received base-level funding to replace the booths, carpet, window treatments and other design updates. Other improvements include a new tray drop-off area and reconfigured dessert and grab-n-go areas. The 50 FSS is also partnering with the base multimedia staff to produce composite pictures for the walls.

"This is a much needed-facelift," said Karen Draper, 50th Force Support Squadron Sustainment Service Flight chief.

Though some changes have already started, the first installation on the books for the dining room will be the windows and will take place the last week of August.

Additionally, Draper said leadership has supported improvements behind the scenes with replacement equipment and daily-use items for the kitchen and staff.

"We discovered some things that we could do better for our cooks so they can better take care of our customers," she said. "We were also able to replace some equipment in the kitchen that has been there since the [facility opened]."

During the construction, customers may face restrictive seating and other delays.

"We are trying to use less busy times, such as family days, weekends or slow times as much as possible, and give our customers a heads up," Draper said. "We will have signs in the dining facility and messages on the menu line so people could call to let them know that on some days we might have some limited seating."

Officials with 50 FSS also encouraged Schriever members to look out for dining facility updates through the Schriever Sentinel newspaper, Base Bulletin, Web Highlights, the base public website and more.

Draper said the upgrades will certainly benefit Schriever members.

"In the end, we will have a facility with improved and expanded seating with an updated overall look more in line with our mission," Draper said.
