Enlisted reservists seeking a commission as a second lieutenant in the 310th Space Wing now have their chance, but the window is closing.

Wing officials announced via e-mail Sept. 9 members wishing to be considered for the Deserving Airman Commissioning Program, or "DACP," should submit their package to their respective squadron or group by Nov. 20.

The program is designed to commission deserving Airmen to fill valid non-rated and line officer unit vacancies. Airmen who elect to go through the DACP process will meet with group selection board, which then nominates the best candidate for commissioning, while recognizing all interested and qualified individuals. Members are required to submit a complete application package by the Nov. 20 timeframe. Application packages are then sent to the 310th FSS career development section for final eligibility verification.

AF Reserve 1st Lt. Ana Dominguez, 19th Space Operations Squadron navigation warfare officer who commissioned through the DACP in 2010, said the program for her was "initially challenging," but that receiving her commission was the "most rewarding career decision" she had made.

"I would advise any enlisted member interested in pursuing a DACP opportunity to buckle up and prepare for the most exhausting, yet exhilarating experience of their military career," said Dominguez.

Dominguez pointed out the challenges presented her during the DACP process. First, gathering all necessary documents for the DACP package, ensuring passage of the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test and adhering to suspenses. Dominguez also reflected on her time at Officer Training School, saying the environment aims to lead a trainee "down the leadership path."

"(OTS) is a path riddled with military customs and courtesies, drill, time management and leadership demands that allow you to truly appreciate success," she said. "The DACP process is ridiculously challenging, but an awesome experience!"

Chief Master Sgt. Gary Brown, 310th SW command chief, said the DACP process provide wing leadership with the opportunity to "tap into our enlisted Airmen whom have demonstrated exceptional leadership skill potential".

"The [DACP] is a wonderful tool for our wing leadership to showcase their hard work attaining their bachelor's degree or beyond they've worked so hard for," said Brown. "Nothing would make me prouder to know that wing leadership helped someone to become an officer who goes on to command a flight, squadron, wing or even Numbered Air Force. Our members achieving those heights of responsibility would be a sight to see."
