Schriever Week celebrates base’s 31st anniversary

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --

Team Schriever will celebrate the 31st anniversary of the installation’s legacy during the third annual Schriever Week Sept. 26-30.

"Schriever Week is a fantastic way for us to celebrate all of the hard work our Airmen, civilians and contractors do on Schriever every day,” said Col. DeAnna Burt, 50th Space Wing and installation commander.

Named after “The Father of Air Force Space and Missiles,” retired Gen. Bernard Adolph Schriever, pioneered the development of the nation's ballistic missile programs. The installation is the only Air Force Base whose namesake was alive during the renaming ceremony.

“This is a time to celebrate and acknowledge the accomplishments of Schriever as a base and the wing,” said Senior Master Sgt. Jason Chrisman, 50th Force Support Squadron superintendent and lead coordinator for Schriever Week.

The following is a schedule of events during Schriever Week:

-Sept. 26: An opening ceremony will kick-off Schriever Week at 1:20 p.m. Airmen in the formations should be in place 12:30 p.m.

Schriever Week concludes with the promotion ceremony on Sept. 30 at 3 p.m.

“We've got some great activities planned that I hope everyone takes advantage of," said Burt.

“We wanted to include events that allowed the members of Schriever to take time to decompress, as well as to educate members on the history of Schriever and the missions that the 50th has been involved with in the past,” said Chrisman. “It has been a collaborative effort to plan the events for the week, we have gotten everyone involved from all of the private organizations on base.”
