Space Warning Reservists Make History

Detachment 1, 8th Space Warning Squadron members, are photographed here standing in front of the misison control station at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo. The Reservists known as "Scorpions", for the large black scorpion displayed on their unit patch, made history Nov. 8, when they fully manned the Space Based Infrared System Mission Control Station Back-Up for a 12-hour shift. A ‘total force’ team of active duty, Reservists and contractor personnel, support operations of the SBIRS Highly Elliptical Orbit satellites round-the-clock, 365 days-a-year.
